In recent months, Watford star Abdoulaye Doucoure has continuously been linked with a move away, with a host of premier league outfits chasing his signature. After a string of impressing performances for the Hertfordshire side, Doucoure who is primarily used as a central defensive midfielder has really caught the eye. Sides such as Arsenal, Tottenham and Liverpool are said to be interested in the 25 year old French man, and with various reports coming out on the situation along with Doucoure himself stating that he’d love to play under Arsene Wenger at Arsenal, the saga continues on whether we will see him in a Watford shirt next season or not.
Abdoulaye is a product of the Rennes youth system and it was there that he started to show his promise, after impressing he earned his move to the hornets back in February 2016 and was immediately sent out on a six month loan to Spanish outfit Granada, a club also owned by the Pozzo family. Experience was what he needed, and that is what he got from what was a major loan spell in the ascent of Doucoure’s career, starting 15 games and being a key reason why Granada were able to stay in the Spanish top flight for the following season.
Doucoure returned to Watford for the 2016/17 season and was left out of the squad for a large amount of games under head coach Walter Mazzarri, before making his Watford debut on January 1st 2017 on his birthday. It took Abdoulaye a while to get to grips with life in the premier league but after the run of games that he needed, he finally settled in and started to become a key component to what was a struggling Watford side finishing in 17th place narrowly avoiding the drop.
This season, Doucoure has been the heartbeat to the Watford team, and is one of the main reasons why they are having the season that they are. Currently sat in 10th in the premier league Watford are looking for a top 10 finish and maybe even a late push for their first dose of Europa league football. Doucoure is currently Watford’s top goalscorer this season, popping up with 8 goals and his outstanding performances have been what have lit up Vicarage Road this season.
Wherever the 25 year old ends up, we are sure to see him carry on flourishing with the ball at his feet for years to come. The talent that he possesses is sure to bring him all of the success in his footballing future and the asking price might very well be a high one but if any type of deal does end up coming out of these rumours then it will be a very good addition for any side he may join. But until the summer, the saga continues and the question still remains whether Abdoulaye Doucoure will be a Watford player next season.
