According to the London Evening Standard, Chelsea could continue the trend of signing young English talent as they are reportedly interested in Jamaal Lascelles.
Initially, when the news hit social media it was met with cynicism from the Stamford Bridge faithful. However, one can’t argue that it doesn’t make sense. All we have to do is look at the recent signings of Ross Barkley and Danny Drinkwater to see that trying to sign young English talent is clearly something that the board are right behind.
The report details that that Jamaal Lascelles would be a direct replacement for Gary Cahill who many Chelsea fans feel has offered all he can at the club.
That has of course been met with some outrage as Chelsea fans were quick to point out that they already have Kurt Zouma on the books. It did not go unnoticed that he is younger, arguably a better player, and is already embedded at Stamford Bridge, but the rumour hasn’t disappeared. In fact, the report actually details that Chelsea have been scouting Lascelles since 2016.
